Sending Our Love Down the Well

Greetings and Saltmutations,
recently, some people banded together and sent me some money for my birthday, which is my preferred traditional method of birthday gift. their only caveat, donate all the money to someone else. in that sense, its the gift that keeps on giving. at least that's what i've been told.

a bit of backstory, i recently did another charity thing (previous blog post) and at the bottom i mentioned i had misunderstood (or conveniently forgotten) the money was supposed to go to a cancer related charity. some brave souls took it upon themselves to raise more funds in an effort to help me erase that black mark upon my soul. they sent it to me, and i have forwarded it on.

my charity of choice was the Doernbecher Children's Hospital - one of sarah's friend's daughter, Charlotte, stayed there for almost a year, and they treated her very well and she is healthy again. so it was an easy choice.

the total amount given was $520 - and i assume the people who donated want me to put their names, since they sent me their names. if you'd prefer i didn't put your name, lemme know and i'll take it down. i'll list them in the order they were given to me.

as for other things, i'm working on projects and hopefully they are done soon and they aren't terrible. no promises.

North Woods Charity followup

As a followup to this post, i figured i'd give details on where my charity money went to.

moneywise, it broke down like this, 76 prints were sold (i kept the first 9, edition of 85) - at 50$ apiece = 3800$ was made. the gallery gets 25%, they donated 25% to their charities (splitting donations between Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, Seattle Children's Hospital, and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society) - and 1900$ went to me, 50% of which goes to a charity of my choice, meaning 950$. hopefully that is what everyone figured it to be.

so, i really thought long and hard about where to donate, originally i was thinking Doernbecher Children's Hospital, which is a great hospital. then we heard (as many of you did) about the mudslide on march 22nd in Oso, Washington, which is less than 4 hours from my house.  and it made sense to try to do something to help them.

i searched on how to help, and came across this great list of things that a person could do to help. many great charities to give to, many great causes. the one that stood out to me personally was

However, if you'd like to donate chainsaws, chainsaw bar oil, and two stroke oil, you can call Ed at 425-308-2549.

i texted Ed, asked if he still needed chainsaws, he did. so we purchased 5 of these beauties. the reviews seem reasonable (we're a stihl family, personally) but the price was right, people seemed to think they'd do the job, so we went for it.  

they are set to arrive tomorrow, not sure if i will hear any followup from ed, but if i do, will keep you informed. heres the receipt, spent a bit extra just to make sure they arrived in a timely manner, and hopefully they are put to good use and help out.

so, thanks for all your orders, always good to give back, and in this case, felt good to be able to help out pretty locally.

ps. - i was just reminded by the gallery that this was supposed to be a Cancer related charity. looks like i'm the april fool in this case. since the money's already spent, i'll have to figure out how to make that right, i owe 950 bucks to a cancer charity. my brain memory is very poor, i tell ya.
