hi all,
thanks again for all the lotto submissions, all the kind words, all the orders. its always a great honor and i do appreciate it. i know there were some bummed people out there, i got some of those emails, i'm sorry about that. part of the reason i put sarah in charge of the lotto is that she is a machine, she can't be bargained with, she can't be reasoned with, she doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear. and she absolutely will not get this reference to the terminator movies.

but seriously, i wish i had more prints, i wish i could tell who actually was going to keep the poster forever, framed above their fireplaces, handing it down from generation to generation, creating a small shrine to it - and i would sell to those people. but the lotto is just random. sure some people have won multiple times while others have never won. i don't feel guilty about that because it is completely random. if i started telling sarah who to pick that would take out the randomness.

as a few of you pointed out, the store link was posted online and some people purchased it without getting picked in the lotto. it wasn't the end of the world, they were refunded, no hard feelings. sarah didn't enjoy the extra work but its all business, it didn't ruin our day. i know what its like to want something badly enough that you just have to take the chance. i was that way with the transformer movies. and i was let down each time. they were awful.

anywho, hopefully this didn't ruin anyones day, mondo does the random drop and i do the lotto, between the two hopefully there's a good balance of opportunities. and i guarantee this poster is not the last great poster mondo will put out, so many more chances to pick up a great print. it could be my last print worth buying but that's another story.

to give everyone an equal chance, posters will be sold by email lottery. you enter by email, if its picked, i'll email you and give you purchase details.

Costwise, posters will be $65 plus shipping (regular), $110 for the variant (plus shipping)

I am limiting people to one poster per person. you cannot buy both the regular and variant if picked.

Mondo Brain Damage 2012 Shirt Series

so, this past year i worked on a shirt series for mondo. mitch putnam came to me and asked if i'd be interested in working with some other artists on a series of shirts, and slowly it came together, and they are available here.

i thought i'd do a short writeup about each one, just so people know how they came about.

- Snowbeast by Arik Roper
arik imagined a medieval version of a familiar snowbeast, putting his own iconic spin on it.

- Brute Squad by Boneface
boneface found inspiration in the mad max universe, a post apocalyptic type dude. just a cool punk mashup that i enjoyed.

- Discovery by Dan Black of Landland
dan and i talked about the things i liked from his previous work, and he can really do fun sketches of gadgets and make patterns out of them. so he came up with this and it just clicked.

- Helping Hands by Richey Beckett

richey came up with a few different options, all awesome. and we went with this version and the detail was just great, just a cool idea well executed.

- Berserker by me

pulling obvious inspiration from the classic 80's movie "Mac and Me", i thought it'd be fun to draw the original Berserker.

- Brain Damage by me
the idea that started it all actually. i did a design for fun and the mondo guys thought it could make a fun shirt, and this series was born.

- Navigator by me
again, just a snapshot from a movie universe that isn't anything specific, just something you'd imagine lived in that universe. 'the one that got away.'

-Surf Seoul by me
i always liked those T&C Surf shirt designs growing up, so this was kinda my attempt at something like that.

so, hopefully people enjoy them, we had some fun putting them together and i believe mondo might even be working on more with other artists down the road, something to look forward to.

just a note: with sales like these, there's always a chance of oversales. so a purchase does not guarantee a poster, you could be refunded. but we'll do refunds today and if you don't get one you will be getting a poster.

also, i will be limiting people to one sleeping dogs poster, so either the regular OR the variant, not both. same with menomena. one regular or one variant. BUT you can order one sleeping dogs and one menomena, no problem.

however, if the posters don't sell out today i'll let people buy both copies of both versions, its more to let everyone have a chance to say 'no thank you.'

FAQ:
Q: can i purchase all 3 colorways?
A: no. in order to spread out the posters as much as possible, one poster per person.

Q: which is your favorite colorway?
A: oddly enough, the blue. which is the original colorway. then i did the two others, the purple colorway and the green/gold metallic colorway. and those seem to be more well received. so i guess i am out of touch with what people like.

Q: how many do you have for sale?
A: about 30 of each colorway. postersandtoys.com will have some copies down the road. plus each poster is an edition of 900, so i'm guessing this won't be a super tricky poster to get ahold of, at least for awhile. but in 100 years it will be very rare indeed. all 900 posters of each colorway are signed and numbered by me.

Q: how are your phish posters numbered?
A: with phish, all their copies are numbered, as are mine, out of the same edition. so my copies are from the edition of 900 that were sold at the event. the rest of the prints are shipped to the event and sold, and if they have some left they put them at their online store, but i'm not sure when.

Q: why are your lottos so complicated?
A: i try to think of every possible question people might email me and address them all. but it makes things sound really complicated. when in doubt, just read the green letters.

If I Can Reach Just One Person

final edit: originally i had posted an email exchange from someone accusing the lotto sale process of being biased. words were said, feelings were hurt, and i posted the transcript as a way of telling my side of the story, since the other guy said he was posting around online his side of the story etc. but time has passed and i feel a little guilty, so i'm taking it down. 

Regarding the lotto sale process. i know its a convoluted way of selling prints. some of you probably remember a few years back when i just put the posters up for sale at a certain time, first come first serve. i had a few problems with store crashes and the email lotto system seemed to be a solution to that. no sale method will make everyone happy, not as long as there are more people trying to get the poster than posters available.

i try to be fair. that's why its set up the way it is. at the end of the day, its my posters, my way of selling them. and that's all i'm doing, selling posters in what i believe to be a fair way. if you are unhappy with that, i assume you'll purchase your posters elsewhere. if enough people end up doing that, then i'll have to change the way i do sales. as long as my current way works, and as long as i think its a fair way to do things, i'll keep doing it. since again, its one person's way of selling prints.

i'm always happy to explain how / why i do things the way i do them, or have sarah explain it. i try to be fairly transparent. if you have serious concerns, email me. i will try to avoid posting those emails online.

El Fundraisèr: Children's Hospital Edition

so, finally, the results of the fundraiser. as some of you know, awhile back the guys at this facebook group gave me a very cool birthday gift in the form of a framed poster (seen here and here) as well as $745 with the instructions 'give it to charity.' which was super nice of them. though i felt a bit of pressure, i wanted to do something worthwhile with it, not just forward it onto a charity like 'Save the Chilean Miners' or something.

so, i asked around and finally remembered my friend robert perez volunteered as an art instructor at legacy emanuel children's hospital. i emailed him asking if they needed anything there, they said they needed lots of art supplies and art journals etc. i got an idea of how much it would cost, and figured i'd raise another 400$-ish to be able to purchase what i wanted to purchase. so i had a fundraiser of my own, here. and we actually got some pretty high bids, the winning bid going to Ren C. with $1,251 (erroneously reported by me as 1,201 on that original blog). so that, plus the facebook groups donation, brought the total to $1996.

the big item the hospital wanted was this art journal sold by art with heart. $12 per book or $7.50 when you purchased 8 or more. we drove up to seattle and picked up 50 copies, then had another 100 shipped to us, for a total for 150. this receipt kinda shows that, but in a weird way, since they originally charged us $12 per book. so they had to give us a credit on the other 100 and it worked out fine. we got the other 100 books, and we were set. next we figured we'd pick up some art supplies, so we looked around and turns out walmart had packs of 24 crayons for 25 cents. and markers for 50 cents. i am not a big walmart nut but when you're dealing with charity, i figured hey, money saved is money saved. so, purchased about 150 crayons, 50 marker sets, plus some other things like little organizers you can put art supplies in etc. here is that receipt. though i pieced it roughly together in photoshop, it could have been longer or shorter than that. but it was a lot. took about 10 minutes to check out.

on top of that, one of the people who purchase posters from me, Scott Bromberg, emailed and said his family ran an art supply store. and wanted to donate art supplies. and he sent a ton, a ridiculous amount of stuff. i'll post photos at the bottom of this post. but those dwarfed our walmart purchases, packets of brushes, boxes of watercolors, i would guess possibly $1000 worth of stuff, retail. a lot, that is for sure.

so, we loaded it all up in the car, drove to Legacy Emanuel's Randall Children's Hospital, and met up with Robert, and dropped off all the supplies. they were very pleased and appreciative, all in all a successful charitable deed.

Fundraiser II: Fun on Earth - Hospice Edition

so, after all was said and done after the children's hospital fundraiser, we had about 800$ left to spend, so for our second charity we chose the Ray Hickey Hospice House. its about 8 miles from us and is where my grandma Harriet Stout spent her last weeks on earth. she was in a coma but we still really liked the place a lot and were impressed by them.

first we checked online but all online donations actually go to the hospital that run the hospice. which is totally fine, but we wanted to do something specifically for the Ray Hickey House, so sarah called them up, told them we wanted to do something, and the lady said they really wanted 18 bird feeders outside each of their patient windows, so their patients could watch birds feed. they had a few already and those were a big success, so they wanted more.

so we shopped around, found some we liked at Home Depot and purchased those. since they didn't have quite enough, we then went to a place called Backyard Bird Shop, and purchased a few more. plus they requested a bird seed that didn't germinate into plants and whatnot, which only this store sold. so there ya go. plus we had to purchase 18 'shepherd's hooks', which you hang the feeders on.

my dad went with me and we installed them all in about an hour, after filling them up with birdseed. we also purchased a couple extra bags of feed so they should be able to keep them stocked for awhile, i would think.

they were pleased, and we heard back from some people staying there that they really appreciated the bird feeders. success.

all in all, it was a good experience, getting to see what charity is like up close. plus apparently its good for your taxes, according to both the hospital and the hospice. so thanks to all that contributed, it was nice to do something good for a change. mwah ha.
