Pearl Jam / Assault on Precinct 13 poster sale

lotto is Closed, thanks for all your entries.
------------------------------------------------

hello,
if you're interested in either my pearl jam poster or my assault on precinct 13 poster, this is the sale info.

to give everyone an equal chance, posters will be sold by email lottery. you enter your email, if its picked, i'll email you and give you purchase details.

pearl jam will be $50 plus shipping, and assault will be $50 plus shipping.

you can enter both lotteries if you want. and if you get picked for both, you can purchase both.

i'll notify those that are picked Wednesday morning, after 10AM Pacific Standard Time. those picked will have 5 hours to purchase. if you're in a different timezone and the link i give you no longer works, drop me an email, i'll see what i can do.

Please check tstout.com if you are wondering about results. i will post updates there. i am unable to notify everyone that is not picked personally.

How to enter:
for the pearl jam lotto, email closed
for the assault on precinct 13 lotto, email closed

your email should have 2 things
1. your NAME
2. your ADDRESS
- multiple email entries will get you disqualified.
- multiple entries via different email addresses will get you disqualified.
- one entry per household, per mailing address.
- your lotto entry shipping address must match your paypal shipping address.

bottom line, enter once and you'll have a shot.

here is my regular and variant pearl jam poster. the ink is a little glossier than my usual prints, but i'm pleased with it.

i am getting my copies of assault on precinct 13 tomorrow, so will have photos on my site if not tomorrow, then soon, apologies. but here's what it looks like, approximately.

FAQ:
Q: what's this about the pearl jam variant?
A: i have 100 regular pearl jam prints, numbered out of 100. the copies sold at the show were unnumbered. i believe i have about 20 variants. if you get picked in the pearl jam lotto, you will be in the running to get a variant. but if you absolutely hate the variant, there will be an option to pick just the regular. it'll make more sense if you're picked. i can't guarantee anyone a variant though, they'll be random.

Q: are you adding anything extra to the tube?
A: i'll say no, that way it will be a surprise. unless i really do add nothing then you'll be like, 'i expected that. what a rip.'

Q: i heard the assault poster was going to be a dvd cover design as well? any truth to that?
A: i was contacted to do a dvd cover for the Scandinavian release of assault on precinct 13, which is how this all came about. but i can't guarantee they will use it, last i heard they are planning on it. but it'll be a Scandinavian release only, not in the usa. so, there ya go.

Le Loup de fer-ious

Edition is Closed, thanks for all your orders.
------------------------------------------------

i have a new print releasing today, a timed edition, so should be fairly easy to get if you're interested.

it will be available today, Thursday, October 13th, at 12PM Pacific Standard Time through 12AM PST. Noon til Midnight. this link will become active at noon. or a little before that.

(link removed, sale closed)

the edition size will be determined by the amount of preorders received. also, a link to my timezone.

a little about the print: its 18x24 on cream paper; it will be 5 colors, including metallic silver ink. the name 'Le Loup de fer' means 'The Iron Wolf.' or it hopefully means that. the print will be signed and numbered. check tstout.com for any updates.

these will be printing next week and will ship out the following week, barring any printing disasters. check tstout.com if you have any shipping concerns.

FAQ
Q: can you guarantee the print will look like this when printed?
A: it will look as close to this as possible, but with screenprinting there's always minor changes. but if its way off obviously i'll let people know.

Q: what does this print mean?
A: funny story. i actually did this as a poster for a band. who had wanted something somewhat theatrical feeling, they were fans of older samurai films. but this was way off and was rejected. so i decided to print it anyways. the title comes from the name of the movie, which is 'The Iron Wolf.' which doesn't exist. yet.

Q: i heard you did a facebook exclusive edition or something? i don't even have facebook.
A: heck i'm not on facebook either. but the group approached me about commissioning me to do an exclusive print for them. which i haven't had time for. and originally there was just going to be a regular red edition. but i figured i'd make a gold edition specifically for this group. it was just an attempt to do something neat for them. its not like i walk around wearing a 'member's only' jacket. i am not a member of the group, that would be weird. but i think anyone is free to join.

Q: what do you think the edition size will be?
A: i dunno. i'll post it on my site, later tonight, so if you're mainly into small editions hold off purchasing until later tonight and i'll post where its at and you can make the call then.

Q: i'm still bugged about that faceboook thing.
A: i know, it was just a random thing. look at it this way, the gold edition wouldn't have existed without the group. but the red edition is the original design and if i had to pick just one, that would be the one.

A: no. that is actually not how lotteries work.

Q: should i include additional info in my lottery info why you should pick me? (my dog died, my father was captain america, etc).
A: that is not necessary. just include your name and address. keep it simple as they say.

Q: are these personally stamped on the back by you, personally?
A: that is a very specific question. but yes, they should all be.

Q: are you including a free sticker of a man in a skull mask in each order?
A: again, very specific question, but yes, i have a couple different designs, i'll mix it up.

Beeeeeeeess

completely unrelated to posters. but interesting nonetheless.

so, awhile back i asked about bees on the ol' tstout.com. and many people had tons of helpful info, and i am truly appreciative. i did get one email that had pretty much all the info you need for starting to raise bees, which i will be attempting to do. it was so informative i figured i should actually post it up, in case anyone else is curious. my thanks to brad for all this amazing info.
-------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi Tyler,

Happy to help out.

Getting started is not that hard, but it does take some capital, planning and time. The Spring is the best time to get started in beekeeping. Ideally, you would get some bees from a local beekeeper in your area that would see you a "Nuc" (pronounced "nook"...long ooooo"), which is short for a "nucleus colony". This is a small colony of bees with a laying queen that will have 4 frames of capped brood and a full frame of honey. Typically, you would get a 5 frame, Deep nuc ("Deep" is the size of frame) and add it to a larger 10-frame box. This is the ideal because the bees have already got a large part of their work done and will be focusing on filling the new space while waiting for the new bees to emerge, plus, they are all related, i.e., the queen in the nuc is their mother.

The second best option is to buy a package of bees, which is a "box" of bees containing 3 pounds of workers and a mated queen. These bees are typically sold by honeybee producers, so you end up with a young queen that is introduced to a lot of un-related bees. Those bees will accept her for the most part, but since they are un-related, the workers will often "supercede" or replace her with a newer queen pretty soon after "installation" into a new hive.

With that aside, you will need to buy equipment. Of course, this depends on what style of hive you decide to go with, but I'll assume you're going to go with the crowd for just a moment. That would mean you'll be buying "Langstroth" style equipment, which is industry standard, therefore, readily available. You can get it at many, many different vendors, some local, some not. I did a presentation on this in January on considerations/cost of getting started. The presentation is at this link:

The other alternative is to build your own Top Bar Hive. Top Bar Hives are one of the oldest styles of hives that have removable bars. The bees will build their comb right on the bars and you can inspect the colonies in much the same way as a Langstroth. There are many pros and cons to using this style of hive:
Pros:
  1. Cheap - you can build one from scrap material so long as you have a saw, hammer and nails and the skills to do it
  2. Bees are less "disturbed" when you inspect them- much nicer to inspect happier bees than not
  3. Bees get to draw out the comb in the configuration they desire
Cons:
  1. Non-Standard - it is hard to trade with other beekeepers and harder to combine colonies, etc...
  2. Takes more time to do inspections - comb is weaker and gets attached to side walls of hive more often
  3. Honey production is lower - you have to destroy the comb in order to harvest the honey, therefore, it takes more resources (honey) to build the comb every time. Langstroth frames allow for reuse of the comb. You just uncap the comb, spin it out then put it back for them to fill again. They don't have to rebuild the comb every time, so less honey they consumer, which means more in the comb
Those are the big ones. It all depends on what your goals are.

Now, the final piece (and this is critical), you should get connected with a local beekeeping club. That is where you're going to get the most information and help. There is also a forum called the Western Washington beekeeping forum (nwdba.proboards.org) that has a lot of Western WA beekeepers working together every day. It is an invaluable combination.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Regards,
Brad

Poster Sale Info

so, a bit of the 'behind the scenes' of this poster sale, how it works.

if you entered you had about a 1 in 10 chance of getting picked. the way we pick is....out of each 100 submissions we pick x amount. people picked are from all over the world, places like japan etc, so we have to give them some time to either pay or decide not to. if they do decide not to, then we'll send out a few more emails. i'll announce it on my site.

on the rare occassion where we pick a winner and they don't see it in time, if they email us within a reasonable amount of time afterwards, we'll try to work with them. so don't worry about missing an email. the email we send the notification to is your submission email.

we go through the emails and look for duplicate names and duplicate addresses, but there's nothing to stop someone from having their sister or boss or whoever entering as well. i will say truthfully though that no one location gets a lot of people picked, they're spread out all over the world, that's just the way it ends up.

its certainly a lot more work than a random sale but it also seems to spread the posters out more. which is why we do it, to be as fair as possible. the extra work is just a bonus!

as always, i appreciate any interest in my posters and try to be as fair as possible, and the overall feedback i get it pretty positive. if you have negative feedback send it to sarah.

thanks again, and Keep Watching The Skies!

Kill Bill Poster Sale

sale closed, sending out emails
-----------

-----------

i was commissioned by the alamo drafthouse to do a poster for quentin tarantino's screening of Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair, and finally am selling my copies. i don't have a ton of copies, so my apologies if you aren't picked.

i'll be selling them via random email drawing. names will be picked Friday, May 27th, 3 PM PST. so enter once before 3PM PST Friday if you're interested. winners will be limited to one poster TOTAL, not one of both.

How to enter:- send one email to -Link Expired -
your email should have 3 things
-your NAME
- your ADDRESS
- which version you are hoping to get - regular or variant - (you can put both regular and variant but you'll only be picked for one, and if you put nothing i'll assume you're going for the regular)

- make sure you give the name and shipping address.

- multiple email entries will get you disqualified.
- multiple entries via different email addresses will get you disqualified.
- one entry per household, per mailing address.

bottom line, enter once and you'll have a shot.

pricewise, since i have a limited amount of copies, i'll be selling regulars for $125 plus shipping, variants for $200 plus shipping. i wish i had more copies and could sell them for less. i will however be including a random print with the orders, perhaps an offset theatrical poster for Best Worst Movie or a last starfighter print or an older Talkdemonic poster, completely random.

if you're not in the mood to spend that kind of money, perhaps i can interest you in a smaller print that i had room to print alongside another poster recently. 'Nihil Novi', which is latin for 'nothing nude'....hmmm...that can't be right...well its latin for something. regardless, its 12x24, 6 colors oddly enough, metallic gold ink, a not so small edition of 500. its for sale right now and is first come first serve.

kill bill wise, my shipper sarah will be picking the winners, she'll be handling the sale and all other questions.

note: the tstoutposter@gmail.com email is for entries, all questions should be emailed to me at tyler@tstout.com - otherwise i won't see them.

Q: Can you print more?
A: no. again, these are not decisions i make, i'm not twirling my mustache going 'heh heh, this will be super limited.' i simply do the poster, they give me x to sell, and now i am attempting to sell them. questions can be emailed to sarah@tstout.com

Herja, a bit more info

Bjørn, my friend from Norway, writes:
-----------------------
"Every child learns about her here in Norway. Even though Norway is Lutheran most people know the Norse mythology-stories both from books and from tales told by our parents at bedtime.

Herja is also a verb in both of our two dialects. Basically it means "To make a ruckus". If my daughter would run around screaming and tossing stuff around for no reason, I would tell her to "Gje deg å herja!"

"Gje deg" meaning "Give up/Stop doing" and "å herja" means "to make a ruckus".

BUT, Herja could also work as an adjective, because directly translated to english it means "Ravaged". So it is indeed a versatile word. Name, verb AND adjective;)

Even though no one would name their child "Herja" ( as it has a negative connotation here in Norway), it is a fitting name for a valkyrie.
-----------------------

pretty cool to know. plus i love norway so that makes it even more interesting.

herja presale

Thanks for your orders, preorders are now closed!

----------------------------------

so i have been wanting to put out an art print, you know, for kids. instead of going through the hassle of a lottery, i thought i'd try taking preorders. please read all of the below info if you want to know all the details.

after Friday, FEB 18th, 12 PM (NOON) Pacific Standard Time, preorders will be closed.

the edition size will be however many orders i get. could be 50, could be 5,000. i'll announce it on my site sometime tomorrow how big the edition size ends up being.

FAQ:
Q: I am buying this print to resell it, will it go up in price?
A: no. i can pretty much guarantee it will only go down in price.

Q: what does Herja mean?
A: look it up. it's Algonquin for "the good land." well not really. it means this.

Q: can you guarantee this print will look exactly like the jpeg i am seeing?
A: i can guarantee you it will absolutely NOT look exactly like that jpeg. screenprinting is an art, so like, things change in printing. this is what i'm shooting for, and if it prints completely different, i'll send out another email, but i think it should be close.

Q: why not presell these for a week, if you don't care about edition size etc?
A: i have deadlines, this has to be done and start printing tomorrow.

Q: can i buy one after you have these printed? will you have a regular sale?
A: probably i'll have a few extras, but if you want one, use the presale.

Q: will this be a limited edition?
A: everything is limited man. life is limited. but this could be a huge edition, so if you only collect small editions, probably not a good print to pick up. course if no one picks it up then it will be a very small edition, ha ha.

Q: i purchased this quickly, then realized its not super limited, and now want a refund!
A: good grief.

ALSO, as an added bonus, all orders will receive one of the below circle die cut stickers. though you can't choose, it'll be random.

Star Wars, Nothing But Star Wars

THE LOTTERY IS CLOSED.

thanks for the submissions. emails will be picked,
emails will go out.

and that's that, mattress man.

check tstout.com later today for any updates, people picked will probably know in the next hour or so.
----------------------------------------------------------
hello. if you're interested in purchasing a set of 3 star wars prints from me, regular or variant, here's the info.

i'll be selling them via random email lottery. names will be picked wednesday, january 19th, 12 PM PST. so enter once before 12PM PST wednesday if you're interested.

How to enter:- send one email to tstoutposter@gmail.com
include your NAME and ADDRESS. make sure you give the name and shipping address that's on your paypal.

- multiple email entries will get you disqualified.
- multiple entries via different email addresses will get you disqualified.
- one entry per household, per mailing address.

bottom line, enter once and you'll have a shot.

pricewise, since i don't have a ton of sets available, i'll be selling regular sets for $375, variant sets for $475. they'll all be signed and numbered, matching numbers in a set (all 3 numbered 50/850, for instance).

i have a mix of AP's (artist proofs) and regular sets, but they'll all be the same price and the luck of the draw will determine who gets a regular numbered set, who gets an AP numbered set. you'll know when you get your copies in the mail, in other words.

if you have a photo of yourself in front of your tstout poster collection, feel free to attach that to your entry. it won't determine whether or not you get picked, but i might end up putting it up on the ol tstout.com.

FAQ
Q: Are you selling them only as sets, or can I buy one individually?
A: i'll have about 10 regular sets broken up into individual posters, if you want to just pick up just one of the 3. i believe they'll be about $125 apiece. though no variants individually, i have so few that i'm selling them just as set.

Q: Can I buy both regular and variant sets, if picked in the lottery?
A: depends on how many people enter the lottery. if i have 2 people enter, they can buy as many as they want. if i have a lot of people enter, i might limit you to just the regular or variant set.

Q: Can i request an AP set?
A: to keep it simple in shipping, ap sets will be mixed randomly in with regular sets. traditionally, AP sets are more desirable so theoretically if you get one you'll be happy. hopefully.

Q: Why are these more expensive than Mondo's prices?
A: because i have much less to sell than usual. i figured out what i needed to make on em, the time spent on them, and that's the number i came up with. my next poster will be back to my normal pricing. hopefully.

Q: Do I need to include a photo of myself in front of my collection of tstout posters to win?
A: no. its just a random fun thing. everyone who enters has a fair shot.

Q: How many sets are you selling
A: i am in the process of counting them up right now, but probably under 80 regular sets, and under 15 variant sets, plus some AP sets, though not a ton.

Q: Do I need to tell you if i'm interested in the regular or variants?
A: no, i'll work that out with the people picked in the lottery.

Q: How will i know when you're all done picking winners in the lottery?
A: check back at tstout.com sometime after 8PM PST wednesday night, i'll be updating my captain's log.

Q: Do you read all of the lottery submissions?
A: no, my shipper / assistant will be picking winners, i won't see them at all. so i won't get any personal questions/emails sent to tstoutposter@gmail.com - its just set up for lottery submissions.
