☢️ radiation burns - an introductory guide

greetings fellow quarantiners, thanks for taking a moment to get the latest update from the tstout dot crom. i've had a few queries about these cutouts i did recently so i figured i should post a note just to catch everyone up.

last sale i sold these for a dollar, the caveat being you couldn't buy anything else. i wanted to do something that everyone could participate in, i know a lot of us can't buy tons of extra stuff at the moment due to stuff going on in the world etc, so this was just a fun thing to throw out, an experiment on my part.

cut to: a lot of people buying these. put the pressure on me to make something worth having. more than a sticker. less than a personalized birthday cake. i decided upon paper cut outs, haircuts for paper, basically. started making some. not completely sickened with disgust. made a few more. ergo, Haircuts for Paper was born. wait, i mean Radiation Burns was born. or maybe Kolcuts. like, kolfacekilla + cut paper? no? Skidmarks? we'll get there.

how are they made. well...some are cut out of older scratch and dented prints. cut, then spray painted black, then mailed off. i noticed the black paint was rubbing a bit in the post, so i started using fixer on later versions. helps a bit. then realized i could order black paper from french paper co, no spray painting required. loses a bit but gains something else. win / win. or triage as they say in the medical field. its been a learning experience.

in the beginning, we (the royal we) started small. first one down. then moved to existing art. then some of this. little of that. a few hmmms...and thus a pattern was born. i gotta say, its not 100% easy, i'd say each of these venture more into the 'hand crafted' territory versus the mass produced vibe that i try to go for. i'm trying to steer away from too much of the craft feeling, stay in my lane. who knows, time will tell. i could be doing personalized wedding napkins next.

shipping. these shipped for 50 cents. our shipping program sends out automatic emails with the illusion of a tracking number, but alas, for 50 cents, you get no tracking, its a gibberish number. so that was a learning experience.

overall quality. time will tell. i believe they are pretty sturdy. tore this defective one in half and it was like tearing a poster. it can be done, but not like spiderweb fragile. the bigger issue can be bending, small pieces getting bent.

thanks to all that suggested ideas on tstout.com, i appreciate your helpfulness. i don't expect to invest in this new style heavily, its more of a side thing, screenprinted prints are my day job. so, if you hate them, close your eyes and they'll be gone.

anywho, that's the update. hope everyone has ok seats for the apocalypse. for more info, watch tstout.com and that's it.

february2020: break it down

well we'll see if this works, been awhile since i've dusted off the ol blogger.

just wanted to update with the thoughts behind the last sale, thought it went well from my perspective. obviously shipped later than i would like, but holiday sales will do that.

other than that, some questions people had.
Q: talk about the 24x36 print included with calendars.
A: just something done for funzies, wanted to work with premier press in portland oregon, wanted to check out what their quality looked like. i got the verbiage from them regarding the 'offset litho press w/ spot pantones.' its not just press a button and a print comes out, it was a very intricate process that i enjoyed being a part of.

Q: why was it folded?
A: because i actually collect movie posters from days passed, olden times, and most of those are on thinner paper and folded up. i enjoy the look, adds a mystique to it. i know some people might consider it 'damaged', but to me it gives it a lived in appearance. its one of those things that 'if i fold a poster i designed, its ok, but if someone else folds a poster i designed, its bad.' weird huh?

Q: my extra items were damaged in shipping? can i get a replacement?
A: hopefully everyone knows i replace damaged items that are purchased from me. if its a free extra though, sometimes we don't. if its a stickerpack that is sold 'with two handbills' then both of those handbills are absolutely protected, you bought them from me, you expected them, i will replace damaged prints. but if we throw in a 3rd handbill and only it gets damaged...sometimes we don't replace free stuff you weren't expecting. but we will also always refund orders if you're not happy with them. pack em up, ship em back, we'll refund. stuff you've received within the last month or so, not like years later, then we don't really replace damage. but yeah, we want you to feel good about your business dealings with us.

Q: talk about pros and cons, are they random? why are some harder to find?
A: these are indeed random. we try to put out a good mix so if you bought one pack and your neighbor bought a pack, it won't be the same pack. if you buy two packs, we try to not give you two of the same pack. but ganging these up to print (ganging means putting several small pieces on a larger sheet of paper, like a gang), when they go to be cut, sometimes you can't cut some out without cutting others in half. that happened to three this run. which was dumb on my account, but basically some handbills there are 100% of the run of. and some are 75% of the run. and some are 33% or whatever a third of the run is. just one ended up like that, but my printer had to slice through two to save one. so it just threw off the percentages. and other times, i have enough space to gang up all the handbills 1 time, and then enough space left over to repeat 4 out of the six designs (or whatever). so for every 100 runs of that print, some handbills would then have 100 copies, others would have 200 copies. its confusing, which is why it confuses me and we don't end up with an equal amount of handbills.

Q: why were there so many colorways of the PROS&CONS_WRLD bigger handbills?
A: because i'm a sucker for free printing space. you'll notice that those handbills share the same colors as either the pros and cons or the lunar calendars (well now you'll notice, if you didn't before). and i had extra space so i drew up those three and printed them in the margins. if i had time, i would have drawn up a bunch of others because hey, free printing space. but i only had time to draw those three and i figured hey, lets change the colors up a bit, on this one its a red spinner, on this one its a green. just give people choices. i'm not a fan of a billion different variants of something, so it wasn't me trying to pull a double triple quadruple dip. i just had the space and thought it was fun.

Q: hey did you update your sticker section on your website, tstout.com?
A: WELL YES I DID. hopefully i caught them all. please let me know. btw, not sure if anyone notices, but the stickers usually have varying degrees of quality...just like life! in a perfect world i would use sticker robot for everything. their quality is superb, they are screenprinted, they stand the test of time. i think. put them on your car bumper or water container and let me know if they fall apart. BUT, they are also the most expensive. hey, you pay for quality. but if all my stickers came from them, that would cost a pretty penny. so i get some of the real bangers printed by them, and then some of the other are printed via a variety of sources, i'm still trying places out. if anyone has a sticker printing place recommendation, let me know. i've used stickerapp, couple other places. all of them should stick to any inside surface (within reason i guess, not like, people's bare skin, or pets).

but yeah, my goal is always the perfect sticker that lasts forever and is good quality. i can tell you, from this last batch, these are all sticker robot.

just so you can get a feel for which ones might last the longest. but hey, some of the other ones have lasted long for me as well, so i dunno, its a bit of a roll of the dice. i want to sell quality stickers, but its a balance between quality and charging 30$ per sticker pack, ha.

Q: well shoot, i think you answered all of my questions!
A: well good. i am glad. if you have more, email away.

True Romance poster lotto

edit: lotto is now closed. these will take awhile to go through, but by 3PM PST we'll have them sent out. i'll post on tstout.com when they've all been sent out.

regardless, thanks for your entries, kind words and support, i really do appreciate it.

greetings. been awhile since we've done a poster lotto, so hopefully i'm not too rusty.
if you're interested in purchasing my True Romance poster, here's how.

i will be selling them via email lottery. everyone who enters will be eligible.
the lottery will be closed by 10AM Friday, February 15th, Pacific Standard Time.

Sarah will pick from the email entries and send out emails Friday, February 15th, hopefully by 3PM PST. for updates, check tstout.com.

HOW TO ENTER:
First off, and this is CRITICAL, only enter ONCE. if you enter more than once, you'll be disqualified. We have some people every lotto and it sucks to refund people, makes me very sad. when sarah tells me she did it.

and with that info....
Email your Name and Actual Shipping Address to **lotto closed** by 10AM Friday, February 15th, Pacific Standard Time. ---- you can put True Romance in the subject line, or leave it blank. No need for any additional info other than your name and shipping info.

RULES
1. Only submit your name once, via email. your address must be your paypal shipping address. Make sure the address you submit is your shipping address. If you get chosen and try to change the address, we'll assume you've submitted many entries under multiple addresses and you'll be disqualified.

2. If your name is submitted more than once, you'll be disqualified from being picked. If your address is submitted more than once, you'll be disqualified.

3. If you purchase under a different name than the name you submitted, you'll be refunded and disqualified. If you are not picked at all, yet someone gives you a link and you purchase the poster, you'll be refunded and disqualified. Sarah checks each order as it comes in, and refunds those not picked.

- if you're picked, you can choose to purchase either the regular or the variant (as long as copies are available). You cannot purchase both. If you do, you'll be refunded on both.

Posters will be $65 for the regular, $110 for the variant. Plus shipping.

That is all. Email your shipping address, sit back and relax. this will literally take 30 seconds out of your day, then forget about it, and maybe you'll get an email tomorrow, no biggie.

After the first round, theres a chance we might just put the rest up for sale as a random drop, since its easy to do round after round of lotto picks and people not purchasing for some reason or another, and eventually you start to go crazy. So we might just do one round of lotto picks, and then put the rest up in our online store randomly. hey, i'm just one guy, it can't be just up to me to keep things fair and balanced.

Also, I'll have the regular edition for sale, and the gold variant. Also, as an added bonus, some orders will get a metallic foil version in lieu of their poster. I believe the edition is like 20 or 25 or something. I'm not a foil guy and even i think it turned out pretty neat. so, there ya go, little lotto within a lotto. If you absolutely hate foil prints, drop me an email after you order a print, letting us know you'd prefer not to get the foil.

pps - this really seems like the most complicated sale in the world but essentially its just 'email me at this email address with your name and address, and you'll be in the running to purchase this print.' its super easy. but somehow it became complicated.

poster sale - Trey Anastasio / Foo Fighters / Kendrick Lamar / Imagine Dragons / moe / etc

edit: looks like the sale is pretty well over, thanks again for the incredible support, helps put food on the table, keeps the lights on.
--------------------------------------------------------
hi all
i have a grip of posters i'd like to move out the door, and here is your opportunity to give them a once over before saying 'hmm....not sure i need that.' totally understand. but if you're interested, purchase info below.

you can check out the prints i have for sale here - most prints i am limiting people one per person of, if you order more than 1, we'll just refund the whole order, its too hard to just refund a portion of it. if you order more than 1 on accident, drop us a note right away. but please try not to do that, makes more work for sarah. if you order something, then order a different poster, and want to combine shipping, drop us a note. no problem at all.

i also have a timed edition sale going on right now for a letterpress print through the rest of today, not a huge amount of time but big enough for something small. for that great city across the sea, manchester. unless you live across the pond, then its not across the sea at all. just a fun piece that should look fun letterpress'd. we'll see. its shipping separately from the other prints though, since ideally it'll ship flat. if you're overseas and are ok with risking potential letterpress damage to save on shipping costs, let us know.

i'll also be adding a few older prints later today, nothing to get crazy excited about, just trying to pay down some vet bills. plus i found out today our septic system on our 100 year old house needs to be replaced. cool. neat. super. anywho, random drops. no fun for anyone. those items will also be listed here, randomly.

Flight of the Conchords poster sale and stickerpack sale

>> sale over, thanks for your orders! <<<

greetings,

if you're interested in picking up a copy of my latest poster for flight of the conchords, commissioned for their 2018 uk tour, heres the info before you buy.

Flight of the Conchords tour poster
first, please limit yourself to one poster per person
. its a screenprinted limited edition signed and numbered copy of Flight of the Conchords 2018 UK tour poster. The majority of the posters sold on tour are offset printed, whereas these screenprinted copies are unique to this particular edition, only available here. kinda neat. The poster is 18x24, 5 colors on cream paper, printed by Broken Press.

NOTE: these will ship separately from the stickerpacks, unless you don't mind your stickerpack and handbills rolled up and put into a tube, instead of shipping flat. International orders in particular, if you don't mind us rolling your stickerpack/handbills up, we can combine your order and refund you the difference. Otherwise these will ship separately. link removed, sale over
STICKERPACKS -
Also available are stickerpacks, with all new stickers. like, all new. none that you should have already. each pack contains a minimum of 5 stickers, plus two handbills. not a terrible deal i don't think. i have up to 4 completely different stickerpacks available, so if you order one and your friend orders one, you could get different packs. or you can order multiple packs, if you like. link removed, sale over

Alien prints / 2018 Lunar Calendar / Civil War Metal / kitchen sink, etc

UPDATE: thanks for the orders, my sale is pretty much done. thanks for the orders and interest, always appreciated!

-------------------------------
GREETINGS. hey thanks for stopping by to check out the items i have for sale. i'll get right to it.

I have a bunch of prints for sale, my alien poster, uncut alien handbills, my 2018 lunar calendar, queens of the stone age prints, a few captain america civil war on metals, a bunch of older handbills and pins and sticker packs, just a whole mess of stuff.

if you're interested in posters, xx link removed xx

if you're interested in stickers, pins, patches, just a bunch of smaller stuff that would make the perfect stocking stuffer, xx link removed xx

NOTE: we have two separate shops set up because the pins and patches ship better flat. Anything ordered from this store 'should' arrive before christmas xx link removed xx, though i'm not sure about international orders.

ALSO, the lunar calendar is a presale, so it will be selling this week and then printing. If you purchase it with other items, your order will be delayed until its ready to ship. if you purchase it by itself, your other items will ship first and it will ship when it's printed. hope that makes sense.

some items are marked "Limit One Per Person." please do so, when applicable. items not marked with that should be ok to order multiple ones of. as always, we reserve the right to refund orders if necessary. also, if you order a ton of stuff and are just charged the one shipping, there is a chance we might contact you about additional shipping. though i expect that to be pretty rare.

drop us a note with any questions. big cartel has updated their operating system, and this is our first time trying it, so hopefully things go off without a hitch.
